Christmas wishes take new meaning at shelters

KAYSVILLE/WEST JORDAN — Christmas is almost here. For many people this time of year might be translated into celebration, family and friend gatherings, gifts, peace, love, sharing, joy… but not everyone lives the season the same. For many women, men and children, this Christmas will be spent away from an abusive home. Different domestic violence organizations across Utah will try to provide the best environment this season for their residents.

Finley has selected the 14th-century’s Julian of Norwich, the 15th-century’s Thomas á Kempis, the 17th-century’s Brother Lawrence and, from the 20th century, he has gleaned from the writings of Caryll Houselander, Max Picard and Thomas Merton.

Saint Patrick youth continue successful fundraising tradition

SALT LAKE CITY — Every year, just before Thanksgiving, the youth of Saint Patrick Parish are busy setting up and planning their biggest fundraiser. They are dusting off bingo cards and making sure every bingo ball is accounted for, shopping for some items and requesting donations of others. Many items are needed to feed the crowd of 250, as well as award 16 lucky turkey winners. One of this year winners was Lydia LaPutka, the youth leader from Immaculate Conception Parish, who brought four youth to the event.

Desde hace siete años en Utah en el Centro de Celebraciones Culturales ubicado en la ciudad de West Valley se puede apreciar una exhibición de árboles navideños de diversas culturas en la cual las tradiciones de cada comunidad son resaltadas y expuestas de lunes a jueves.

OGDEN – In the spirit of Advent students at Saint Joseph Catholic Elementary School in Ogden are collecting new items for adults and children, including gloves and mittens. All of the items collected will be given to Catholic Community Services in Ogden. These items will benefit those who are less fortunate to help them stay warm during the winter months. Students began collecting the above items toward the end of November and will continue through Christmas break. As the students are bringing in their donated items they are being showcased on clotheslines throughout the school as a reminder of those in need.
