ALSAM Family Foundation gives St. Andrew Parish gift of school

RIVERTON — Applause, smiles, and even a few tears were evident Dec. 3 when members of St. Andrew Parish, Riverton, learned from their pastor, Father Francisco Pires, that through the generosity of the ALSAM Family Foundation, their new parish will soon begin building a school.

"Moms and Dads, make telling stories the most important part of your family. Do not forget to tell your children about the day they were born, and stories about them growing up. These are the most important stories they will hear. Before they go to bed, save time to tell them a story."

SALT LAKE CITY — The Diocese of Salt Lake City, in which more than 1,374 women religious of the Congregation of the Holy Cross have served, was one of three dioceses in the United States where members of that congregation have met over the last two weeks to redefine their mission. The sisters used three North American Assembly 2006 meetings to solidify their corporate stand on nonviolence and work for peace throughout the world.

In a Nov. 27 interview with the Intermountain Catholic Diocesan Administrator Msgr. J. Terrence Fitzgerald said initial plans include a press conference on the day the announcement is made by the Vatican.

CCS holds Annual Appeal

SALT LAKE CITY — With the letter at left, sent to parishes Nov. 13, Diocesan Administrator Msgr. J. Terrence Fitzgerald helped to kick off Catholic Community Services (CCS) of Utah’s annual winter appeal to parishes in the areas CCS serves. The appeal is one of the major fund raisers each year for CCS, the social services, charity, and social justice arm of the Diocese of Salt Lake City. All donations to the CCS Winter Appeal remain in the Diocese of Salt Lake City.
