Father Javier Virgen, Vicar for Hispanic Affairs and Associate Vocations Director; Deacon Ricardo Arias of the diocesan Office of Hispanic Affairs, and I went to Judge Memorial Catholic High School last Thursday to visit the faculty and remind them of the importance of promoting vocations to the priesthood.

I returned to St. Ambrose Parish on the evening of my school tour (see above) for a wonderful dinner hosted by the Knights of Columbus to show appreciation for our clergy – priests and deacons alike.

I was extremely impressed by a tour I took of J.E. Cosgriff Memorial School this past week. Father Andrew Skrzypiec, pastor of Saint Ambrose Parish, joined me as Mrs. Betsy Hunt gave us a real “cook’s tour” of the campus and introduced me to the various classes.

Periodically, the Vivian Skaggs Armstrong Foundation for Roman Catholic and Community Charities board of directors, which supports our Catholic schools, meets to review the foundation’s financial standing and to determine the distribution amounts for the year.

I would like to offer a special word of thanks to our youth who gathered at the Bishop’s residence last Saturday with Mr. Matt Boerke and Mr. Michael Ramirez for a daylong retreat in which they prepared for their roles as leaders of youth activities throughout the year.
